Anurag Basu, currently enjoying his film's nomination as India's official entry to the Academy Awards ( Oscars), was unaware of the good news, while his friends and family were busy trying to reach him.
Speaking to TOI, he said, "I came to know about it rather late. I'm actively involved in the Puja committee of Kallol (in Kolkata) and was having a meeting there about where the idol would be placed, etc. My phone was off and no one could reach me. When I switched it on, so many messages trickled in! I'm obviously very happy. It's a good sign for Indian cinema. The best part is that Barfi! is doing rounds in the festival circuit as well. In Bengali, it can be said, 'Gaachhe kathal gofey tel'. And in English? You can have your barfi and eat it too!"
