Baby Aahuti’s death case: Mumbai police file FIR

Mumbai: The Mumbai police have registered an FIR in the death case of a three-month-old girl, who was hospitalised at a civic-run hospital with multiple injuries on September 24.

Aahuti Joshi, who succumbed to injuries on October 01, was admitted to central Mumbai's KEM hospital with a skull fracture by her parents Kalpesh and Dharmishtha., who reside in suburban Gorai.

Earlier, the Borivli police had ruled out any foul play in the suspected baby battering case and registered a case of accidental death, but on Wednesday, the police finally approached the hospital authorities for details about the case and took cognizance of the case.

Aahuti’s parents have not been named in the FIR since police want to grill them first before naming them in the FIR.

Notably, Kalpesh and Dharmishta are presently in Gujarat and would be summoned to Mumbai for the investigation.

The paediatric department had found that Aahuti had multiple fractures on the skull and also suffered from internal bleeding, police said.

When the baby's parents failed to give a satisfactory explanation over her injuries, the doctors notified cops, who registered a case of suspected child battering.

Ahuti’s post-mortem report had stated that she had fractures on a rib and her cervical vertebra, besides two on the skull. The cause of death, according to the report, was multiple traumas.

Her twin sister had died under mysterious conditions 12 days after her birth.
