Bhopal: With less than five days left for the Assembly elections in Madhya Pradesh, UPA president Sonia Gandhi on Thursday addressed a rally at Jhabua.
While addressing the masses, she claimed that Congress has continuously struggled for the rights of women, poor and minorities and also came out with the MNREGA scheme.
She further added that the party started Sarv Siksha Abhiyan, but the children couldn’t reap its benefits. She also said that in the state people don’t have employment and there are no teachers in the schools.
At a time when Congress is facing allegations of several scams, Gandhi said that corrupted ones in her party have even been sent to jail, but the BJP always protects such men.
She also said that in spite of the fact that the centre has granted several crores for development to the BJP ruled state, Madhya Pradesh continues to be poor with malnutrition, sucides by farmers and non-availaibility of fertilisers and seeds.
Furthermore, while taking a jibe at the BJP, Gandhi said, “BJP sirf vaade karti hai, kaam nahi karti (BJP only makes promises, but doesn’t work). There is lot of difference in saying and doing and we don’t trust false assurances.”
On the other hand, BJP’s prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi while addressing a rally in Agra had rebuked Congress for playing votebank politics. He also termed it a divisive party by nature and said that the ruling party has no interest in the development of the nation.
Madhya Pradesh is going to polls on November 25, 2013. While Union Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia is leading Congress campaigning in the state, present Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan is looking ahead for his third term.
