Vadodara, January 7: The Central Council of Homoeopathy (CCH) said it would not allow introduction of allopathy subjects in the syllabus of homoeopathy colleges of the country.
"There had been demands from the homoeopathy doctors for the introduction an integrated course on allopathy so that they can later practice allopathy as well. They had also demanded that those who have completed homoeopathy degree course should be allowed to do a short-term allopathy course. But that is not possible," CCH chief Ramjee Singh told. "The CCH will also not allow any attempt to introduce the subjects related to allopathy in the study of homoeopathy," he added.
According to Singh, there had been a growing demand from homoeopathy doctors seeking permission to practice allopathic system of medicine. But the CCH had rejected the demand.
"How can we allow homoeopaths to practice allopathy as they are two completely different branches of medicine," he said. The council had rejected the demand following a meeting in September 2013. CCH is a statutory apex body under the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare.
Meanwhile, the CCH has also decided to inspect 102 homoeopathy medical colleges across the country before February 15 to ascertain the availability of teachers, equipment, accommodation, training and other facilities as specified under Homoeopathy Regulations. Singh said several steps are being taken to regulate the functioning of homoeopathy colleges in the country and standardising homoeopathic education with a syllabus prescribed by the CCH.
"The Health Ministry wanted to implement the Minimum Standard Education Requirement (MSER) jointly prepared by CCH and the ministry in all the colleges. But due to practical difficulties, the implementation has been postponed to the next academic year," he said.
After the representation from homoeopathy colleges, the Department of AYUSH (Ayurveda, Yoga & Naturopathy, Unani, Siddha and Homoeopathy), had given amnesty to 102 homoeopathy colleges and were allowed to run for the current academic year. "If these colleges fail to comply, they will face serious consequences including derecognitions," he said.
